Comox Valley Regional District Home Energy Incentive Program

$300 rebates are available for energy assessments for the LiveSmart BC: Efficiency Incentive Program.

Eligibility

Applicant must be the registered property owner of a residential property located in Lazo North (Electoral Area ‘B’), Puntledge-Black Creek (Electoral Area ‘C’) or the Vancouver Island portion of Baynes Sound (Area ‘A’)of the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD). Hornby and Denman Island properties are not eligible.

Restrictions

Rebate cheques will be issued to registered homeowners only. The 2012 program has funding for 100 home retrofit rebates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Application procedure

  1. Book and complete a home energy assessment with City Green or other licenced Service Organization.
  2. Complete energy saving upgrades.
  3. Complete a post-retrofit assessment.
  4. Complete the CVRD Rebate Application Form.
  5. Receive CVRD rebate and LiveSmart BC rebates, and enjoy the savings in your more comfortable and efficient home.

Regional District of Nanaimo Solar Hot Water System Installation Incentive

Sunshine Coast Clean Air Society Wood Stove Exchange Program

The Sunshine Coast Clean Air Society in partnership with the BC Lung Association and the Ministry of Health will be offering a wood stove exchange program. This program provides a financial incentive for owners of inefficient, older wood stoves to trade them in for a modern, efficient and clean burning new one. An educational workshop will be offered that will teach participants how to get the most btu's out of their wood, through proper wood drying techniques and wood stove use. This workshop will be free for all participants.

Fraser Valley Regional District Wood Stove Exchange Program

This program encourages residents to exchange their old, non-EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) certified wood burning stove or insert for a low emissions appliance, including a new CSA/EPA certified wood stove/insert, or other qualifying appliance. New technology wood burning appliances are proven to burn 1/3 less wood, to reduce emissions by up to 70%, and to significantly reduce the risk of chimney fires.

 

The program is operated at a community level through grants provided by the Province.

City of Nanaimo Woodstove Changeout Program

Beginning February 1, 2011, the City of Nanaimo will award 75 rebates ($250) on a first come, first serve basis to homeowners who upgrade their old, uncertified wood burning fireplaces to new, energy efficient gas or pellet models.

Appliances that can be changed-out under this program include:

  • A free-standing, non-EPA certified "stove", a homemade or barrel stove.
  • A so-called "airtight" non-EPA certified fireplace insert, or tube-type heat exchanger with a face plate and door (like the Free Heat Machine or Welenco) that is currently installed in an open hearth fireplace.
  • A non-EPA certified "wood furnace" (ducted, forced air, home heating appliance) - may only be replaced by an EPA certified wood furnace or pellet furnace.
  • A wood burning cook stove.

Replace the appliances listed above with the following:

  • An EPA certified wood stove, pellet stove or high efficiency gas stove/fireplace.
  • An EPA certified wood insert, pellet insert, electric insert or high efficiency gas insert.
  • An EPA certified, factory-built fireplace (may only be accepted if it is replacing a non-EPA certified wood stove or non-EPA certified wood insert-not an existing factory built fireplace).

Eligibility

Homeowner must be a City of Nanaimo resident.

Application procedure

When you are ready to shop for your new low-emission wood stove or fireplace insert, contact a participating retailer  to seek advice on a replacement unit to purchase. Many of the retailers are offering additional discounts and rebates at the same time.

Upon purchase of your new appliance, you will be given a rebate voucher from the retailer. This form will need to be signed by the retailer at the time of sale and installation, and by the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange when the old unit to sent in for recycling.

Note: Most insurance companies require notification if you are installing a new heating appliance.

Your old stove must be taken to the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange to be disposed of (whether by you or the installer). Upon disposal, your voucher will be signed OR you will be given a receipt, which will provide the City with proof of destruction. This receipt should be attached to your signed rebate voucher and returned to the City of Nanaimo.

Revenue Canada Capital Cost Allowance

You might acquire a depreciable property such as a building, furniture, or equipment to use in your business or professional activities.

You cannot deduct the cost of the property when you calculate your net business or professional income for the year.

However, since these properties wear out or become obsolete over time, you can deduct their cost over a period of several years. The deduction for this is called capital cost allowance (CCA)

Campbell River Wood Stove Exchange Program

Campbell River’s wood stove exchange program encourages people
to upgrade older, uncertified wood stoves to new CSA/EPA certified wood, pellet, or gas heating appliances. Homeowners are eligible for a $250 rebate on qualifying appliance purchases.

Cowichan Valley Regional District Wood Stove Exchange Program

Beginning March 1, 2011, residents of CVRD Electoral Areas, North Cowichan, Town of Ladysmith, Town of Lake Cowichan, and City of Duncan are all eligible for this program. Exchange your old, uncertified woodstove (pre-1994) for a new EPA-certified wood, pellet or gas heating appliance. Receive a $300 rebate and a $50 retailer discount (at participating local retailers). Limited number of rebates available. The program is not retroactive. ENERGY STAR Clothes Washer Rebate

If you are ready to replace your old washer and dryer, FortisBC and Terasen Gas would like to encourage you to purchase an ENERGY STAR set. Purchase between June 15th and August 31, 2010 and you can receive $50 back for an ENERGY STAR washer and $100 back for a complete set. (Claims must be received by September 15th, 2010.)

Applicants can apply directly through FortisBC Power Sense Program for the rebate (application form).

Only one rebate available per household, and rebate will be applied to electrical utility bill.

Replace your existing natural gas fireplace or convert your wood hearth to an EnerChoice natural gas fireplace before March 31st, 2011 you may qualify for a $150 rebate from Terasen gas.
